So i post his question to any/all windows geeks out there: how in the hell do i get rid of that goddamned language bar from the task bar? i keep deselecting it but it just keeps reappearing and its bugging the hell out of me. is there some sort of registry hack or preference pane i can go to somewheres to just tell it to DIAF?

thanks.

You don't need a hack or anything, it can be disabled from the normal options. I'm in Vista right now, where I think it's different (are you using XP?) but I think if you right-click the Language Bar itself and select Properties or whatever, then you should be able to remove all the options that are there. The other place you can get to the Language Bar settings is through Regional Language Options in Control Panel, but if I remember correctly from the XP days the dialog you get from the Language Bar itself is the right one. As you've found, merely hiding the bar is not enough as it will come back next time you reboot.
