G5 RAM upgrade - now b0rked
Posted by: Pinstripes on 2007-08-27 18:01:16
I was just trying to install some new RAM and now I've completely b0rked everything up.

I have a G5 1.6ghz that originally had 768 ram: 2 128 sticks and 2 256 sticks. I bought 2 1gig sticks of 333 MHz PC2700 DDR SDRAM and put them in. When I try to boot I get no chime and the power light just flashes.

I looked up in the manual the sequence, but with mine it seems to flash only once (not listed.) I counted and it kept going until the fans went nuts.

I've disconnected everything external but no change.

I've disconnected the video card, USB 2 card and took out the mobo battery but no change.

I've reset the PMU but no change.

I tried taking out the new RAM, going back to the original config but no change.

I tried it with the new RAM only and no change.

I'm out of options here short of chucking it out the window. Can anyone help please? :'(

Fixed it

The problem was the RAM sticks were put into the wrong slots. They need to be ordered correctly.

I hope this helps anyone who has the same problem.
