Studio Display (again -- now with pictures!)
Posted by: IPNixon on 2007-08-24 05:14:55
So, that CRT Studio Display I got basically crapped out on me. It had an annoying problem with tinting (it would always flicker a slight blue), but it never got too bad where it would annoy me.

However, last night, the screen turned a more-solid-than-transparent blue, and I couldn't see a thing out of it. It didn't fix itself like it usually does.

So, I started browsing eBay for another display, this time, LCD. I found one at a starting bid of $39.99 + 17 shipping. I bid $39.99, and waited the remaining hours left on the auction.

Lo and behold, I wake up this morning to find a win notice in my inbox. 😀

It does have a few blemishes on the LCD itself, but hey, I'm used to 'em -- they're on the PB G4 I own 🙂

I'll get pics when it shows up here.

EDIT: I just got this today! Added pics a few replies down 🙂

Cool! Those "blemishes" in the photo kind of looks like the "stretching" effect you get when a CRT has just been turned on. Maybe it's the same with LCDs in which case they should dissappear after a couple of minutes once it's warmed up. Since it is a dealer selling the LCD I somehow doubt whether it has been tested for a prolonged period.

Nice! Goes very well with the Cube.

I've got a KVM switch the same as the one to the left of the first pic!

They never have any computer stuff here.

All you need now is some of those nifty sound sticks and you'll have a complete, ad-ready Cube!

Mine's the same but it cost me more than that! About £10 or £15 on eBay IIRC.

The cube came, as far as I remember, with the 2 transparent balls. That's what I have on mine. Cool!

I have the CRT 17" Studio Display. Huge, but great resolution, even at maximum pixels!!

Yeah, that's the one I had before it started going wacky...

Oh, well. 🙂

$57 shipped for any 15" LCD, let alone an Apple, is a very nice buy!

The blemishes aren't visible in your pics, so it looks like they're not that noticeable.

Great conquest! [8D]

It is a 17", not 15" LCD 😛

i forgot, what was the resolution of that display?

Here, I my friend paid about $200 for his 17" LCD which he ended up giving me. He got it about 6 months ago!!!

How the heck can you get a deal so good?!?!

Oh, for the record, both my 19" and my 17" run at 1280x1024 😛

Those 17" CRT Studio Displays seems to be flaky... they're Mitsubishi DiamondTrons inside, for the record.

Anyway, that is a VERY nice LCD you got there, and at such a cheap price. Incredible deal!

*goes to eBay.au with a hope for a cheap LCD*

Well in that case, it's absolutely killer - esp. since you got it off eBay.

Well done!

I won't tell you about the time I got two fifteen-inchers for nothing then... }🙂 (though they are only the very very old Apple ones)

... or the 20" LCD I got for free, though it is a Dell.

I once got a free 17" Formac CRT monitor that had a Mitsubishi DiamondTron tube in it. The picture on it was gorgeous and it gave me a year of reliable service before I gave it away to a friend and replaced it with my 19" LCD.
