apart from fetch.

what else are you using for 68k?

and why not fetch?

my home ftp server, for some reason has a problem with fetch - not sure why, but it does and it does it over a range of versions. other software and methods seem to work.

anyhoo - i could spend a while trying to figure it out, or i try different software.

whatcha using 68k wise for ftp?

Fetch??? You must never have tried Anarchie!

I don't have any recent experience with it, but I remember using NCSA Telnet to FTP. It has an FTP mode. I don't remember which version, but it was under System 6. Maybe it's worth a shot for you.

Oh god! Fetch I have to use it so much where I do IT at a middle school! I swear I never want to see it again.

Anarchie is easily the best 68k ftp client. (It changed its name at some stage, but was PPC by then I'm sure.)

It's cool gui gives you simultaneous views of multiple directories on multiple servers, excellent bookmarks provided (when the software was current at least), multiple simultaneous downloads.

It should be easy to download from info-mac archives etc.

top marks to the screenshot guy!

with link too. looks good, may use that on my 540c. i guess that i will be forced to go for anarchie tho for my pb100 as its 68000 usable. anything else for those 68000 users out there?

at this point i am just curious - transmit looks good - but i just knew you all would say anarchie (never tried it as fetch worked well enough) but are there only two candidates for a 68000 cpu machine

What is wrong with Fetch? It has an idiot proof interface that worked well with common FTP servers when 68K Macs were popular. Possibly old Fetch doesn't work wth newer FTP servers (certainly no SSL or SSH encryption) but it was great for those of us who provided user support.

Personally, I used Anarchie most of the time in the 1990s, but I used the command line clients for many years before that.

excepting my recent dalliance with cyperduck - fetch was all i have used in mac. and as you say - nice and simple and idiot proof.

i like that combination!

;-)

cuteftp was my windows choice.

He said it doesn't work with his home server. I don't think this is an anti-fetch thread.

wgoodf: I just launched NCSA Telnet on my SE running system 6.0.5, and it does have an FTP mode, so there is a third option. It's very basic, just a shell, but I was able to get and put with it.

FWIW I too had a problem with fetch not working in the past with a certain ftp daemon, but I don't remember which ftpd it was.
