What does it do?

It's the Code Fragment Manager - provides system support for writing "plug-in" type code.

Mostly, it makes it easier to write "modern" PowerPC applications while still supporting 68k.

As a user, it lets you run programs that require CFM-68k. ;-)

Make sure you get 4.0! Earlier version cause corruption of the hard drive's data. It's needed for 7.6.1 and 7.5.x, but not bundled with them. You'll get it if you update your Laserwriter version to the last latest for your System.

It's built into the OS in 8.x and up, if the CFM extension is installed it can cause problems.
