Quadra Surgery

I tried to startup my 610 today and got the chimes of death after I installed another 32mb simm in it. I thought it was the ram at first but it test OK in my LC 475. I pulled all the ram and still got the chime. I also toggled the power switch a few times and still nothing. I assume the motherboard went. I decided to do a transplant with my 660av. It had a cracked case. I pulled the board, back port cover, and power supply and put it into the 610 case. I also inserted the full 040 cpu from the 610. The 660av had its pulled to go in my LC 475. The 660av got the 610 caddy cd too. The 660av had a tray load but no bezel for the case. As much as I hated to see the 610 go it is nice to see the 660av up to snuff now.

Sounds like a dead PRAM battery. You need a 1/2AA 3.6V Lithium

Installing a SIMM might give the chimes of death but it is unlikely it has fried anything on the motherboard. The fact that the SIMM still works in a 475 suggests that nothing has been toasted on that either. Try re-setting the PRAM and a using a different PRAM battery.

The battery is known to be good. I will try the board again and reset the pram. Thanks.

I tried a pram reset and still nothing. It seems dead to me. :'(
