| Dead PB G3 Pismo |
Posted by: mitchW on 2015-01-01 06:28:56 I received two PowerBooks G3 for parts. One of them was complete, but not working, the other one was missing some parts, so I made one from two. But I want to get the other one also running.
The dead one has at least two SMD components on mobo shorted out (i believe they are the transistors), one is near the power-on switch, the other is on the DC-DC charging board.
I have included pictures, on which the shorted components are marked. I would like do know what type are they and where to get replacements.

One is marked as p0402, other one is 7EPJ8.
The mystery remains...

Posted by: Schmoburger on 2015-01-30 07:53:34 I'd be inclined to think that The machine has taken a surge or possibly something bad has happened as a result of the charge cable being ripped out of the back even... have seen this kind of damage from the latter. For what it is worth, as the Pismo and Lombard are of a modular design, I would suggest sourcing replacement sub-boards rather than attempt a repair on an individual component level... I know PBMedic used to stock such items however in this day and age i am not sure what their stocks would be like. Ebay or another 68k member may be your friend here. 🙂

Posted by: Sherry Haibara on 2015-01-30 08:22:49 I've found one DC board on eBay that does ship to Europe, but it might be a little expensive depending on your location. You can find it here.
It might be cheaper to check out if any fellow member of this forum has a spare one, though!
