| G4 Sleep Issue (Issue Fixed) |
Posted by: Mr. 680x0 on 2007-07-01 19:43:41 My Sawtooth won't sleep. It has a PC power spply, and when I try to put it into sleep mode, it says the case is open. Even though it's closed. Is there any way to bypass whatever the switch it with software so I can make it sleep?

Posted by: MacJunky on 2007-07-01 21:43:18 Are you using the original case?
>_> Mine is in an ATX server case and will happily go to sleep but not wake up despite repeated attempts at known fixes for not the not waking up issue.

>_> Mine is in an ATX server case and will happily go to sleep but not wake up despite repeated attempts at known fixes for not the not waking up issue. Yup, it's in the original case. I got it without a power supply, so I simply wired up a PC one.

Posted by: Mr. 680x0 on 2007-07-02 07:20:28 I fixed it. There's a reed switch below the speaker inside. There's a magnet by the airport slot. I simply pried off the magnet and stuck it above the reed switch, and voila! Sleep!
Thanks to a little help from #68kMLA getting me a link of course to some info.

Posted by: iMac600 on 2007-07-02 07:32:19 The switch gets older and more resistant to magnetic forces as the machine ages, so moving the magnet closer to the switch pulls it closed, making the machine detect a closed door.
An image by Mr. 680x0, and I hope I can post this... http://i12.tinypic.com/6h2lxrn.jpg
So finally the machine detects the case state correctly, it sleeps and it works... I checked my machine for the same issue but mine wasn't affected.
Case Closed. (Pun Intended)

I am not at my PowerMac G3 B&W, but does this machine also have that? I was wondering, because I don't think i have ever seen it...
|
Posted by: Patrickool93 on 2007-07-05 10:30:00 I don't think so, cause I always leave my case open, etc during sleep. Right now I just use my B&W as a footrest though 🙂) 🙂 ) 🙂)
