iMac G3 in new case...
Posted by: MrMacintosh on 2007-06-28 22:52:33
Hi all,

I just acquired an iMac G3 (266MHz, tray loader) that was suffocated by its previous owner (pictures to follow). The FBT is shot. Now, I know these can be put into a standard PC case with power supply, but I can't find the good guides on the 'net. (It's 2 AM here.) Anyone have a link bookmarked? I don't...

Thanks,

Kyle-

There are lots, IIRC some are linked to in the Systems section of xlr8yourmac.

Alright, I looked around and went off a few different guides, and got all the useful parts pulled out of the iMac, and it all works! Now, does anyone have any ideas for a case? The one old PC case I have is awful - nothing fits.

Thanks,

Kyle-

Use your imagination! There's plenty of things you could do...my advice is to mount it somewhere where there really shouldn't be a computer. Such as...in a hollowed out radio casing, or inside a monitor, or in the dashboard of a car or.....anything!

Inside the box/case from an old portable record player.

In a hatbox.

Replace the innards of an old oscilloscope.

In a first aid kit case.

!!

Although I personally think I'll be going for something more like a pizzabox...

A 610/660AV/6100 case would probably fit all the bits if you had a small enough/external power supply. If you can squish it all into a LC pizzabox, I'll be impressed and then copy you.

Other than that, how about a 🙂

I had a crazy idea for a case the other day. I drove by a house that had an overhead kitchen cabinet out for trash and thought to myself if it would be possible to build a computer into it.
