Hello again,
Now that I'm on the path to having my Centris up and running the way I like it I have to do a few more upgrades :beige:
I got a great deal recently and finally got all the cd hardware for my Centris which now enjoys a 600i cd drive.
I also got OS 7.6 with this deal and when I attempted to install it I was informed I needed at least 8Mb of RAM, 4 more than my Centris has.
I searched the net and eBay to find out what I needed and as usual found a few conflicts.
I know I need 72-pin SIMMS, which is about all I know for sure.
Many sites claim I need 80ns RAM, and I can only find 60ns, which is aggravating...
I've been told I need FPM or EDO SIMMS, never either.
Some have claimed I need 2k, while others 4k refresh rates.
Now since you guys helped me out a bunch with the 68040 processor upgrade I plan to do, I hoped you could sort this giant mess out for me.

As long as the ram is faster than the minimum needed, you'll be ok. The mac wants anything at least as fast as 80ns, so, 60ns is not a problem.
AFAIK, FPM would work fine. EDO likely would, too, although you may not want to mix and match the two types.

Just to clarify that the speed of SIMMs is given in nanoseconds (ns), which is the time it takes to access it. In this case, lower numbers are better so 60ns will be faster in your Centris (or will just run at 80ns).
This is one of the unusual measurements in computing as normally bigger numbers are better! 🙂

I wouldn't recommend buying unguaranteed RAM. Here you can buy guaranteed RAM to work in your centris at a very cheap price. You could max out your centris for only $20. I know they're very good because I've bought fom them before.

I completely forgot about WeLoveMacs, I've browsed there before! I may have a friend who can hook me up with all my RAM needs but it's certainly good to know a reliable source.
You'd think someone with an A+ Cert would be able to tell that 60ns is better than 80...it's gotta be this summer school 😛
