| Customized Bootup Sound for Mac Plus |
Posted by: bigmessowires on 2014-12-22 18:14:05 I replaced the Mac Plus default power-up "beep" with a harp strumming sound. Fun times. Using the current method, any sampled sound of 0.66 seconds duration could be used, but it's a little bit cumbersome to patch it into the customized ROM.

Posted by: lameboyadvance on 2014-12-22 18:53:03 What about making one with the boot beep from a later model Mac?

Posted by: techknight on 2014-12-22 19:26:33 I dont know what it is, but I really like the Performa 5200 startup sound. And the TAM.

Posted by: unity on 2014-12-22 19:31:45 Ya, the TAM was pretty cool. And the only Mac to ever have its own startup chime as far as I know.
On a side note, I wish they would finally change the one they have been using for years now. When they made the switch to Intel there was rumors of a new one, but nothing.

Posted by: CC_333 on 2014-12-22 19:44:27 Yeah, the current chime has been "current" since the beige G3s and original iMacs, and in a slightly different form, the 7500 and other contemporaries.
I don't mind actually. I like the fact that it's one of the few things about the Mac that has remaind completely unmodified for so long.
That being said, it would be nice if there were some way to change it, because it is getting a little boring....
Having it come out somewhere other than the built-in speaker, as on the Power Mac G4 and older (maybe the G5s too?), would be nice as well.

Posted by: unity on 2014-12-22 19:51:10 Ya, I sorta miss when it was routed to the sound output if something was plugged in. I can see with mine that would not be the case since I am using optical out anyway and no driver for that would be loaded at boot. But even when nothing is plugged in it plays on the internal. I thought this change happened about the time the switch to Intel happened.

Posted by: bigmessowires on 2014-12-23 10:32:16 As far as I can tell, the RAM test is disabled in bbraun's ROM image. So I'm not sure what is taking the extra seconds at boot time…
