Longhorn Sidebar-style file manager for 68k and PPC Mac OS

I was recently thinking about the sidebar in the 2004 builds of Windows Longhorn and thought about how a file manager using this system would work. I imagine it being something like a tool to navigate through files quickly. You could click a little arrow on the left or right of the desktop to bring up the file manager, and you would navigate by double clicking on folders or using tabs to open and close them. Folder controls would consist of two buttons, one for swiching between viewing either only the files in the immediate directory, only the folders, or everything. The second one would be for opening/closing the folder itself. The top would show drives that you could switch between by clicking on them, and the bottom would have a search box, kinda like spotlight in Tiger. You could also perform all the usual drag and drop commands in this sidebar, and you could drag the folder onto the desktop and look at it like an actual window.

Think this would work as a good file manager?

It could work... but it's something one really needs to see in action to be able to make a verdict.
