| iMac 233 & Lombard CD-ROM drives the same? |

Are the CD-ROM Drives in the Lombard the same as those in the iMac 233 (tray-load)?
From what I've seen, they look exactly the same, except for mounting hardware.
What I'm basically asking is, if the iMac drive is removed from the actual mount and swapped with the mount thing for the Lombard, will it work?
Let me know if I have to, and I'd be glad to clarify anything. 🙂

Similar - once you strip down the Lombard's caddy - but probably different models. Should work fine.

The only difference I have seen aside from the brand is the strip of foam on top of the iMac's drive. It is worth noting that a standard ATAPI drive from a pc will work but may not be bootable.
In my experience the drives from the trayloading iMacs and Lombard are total crap and should be replaced with a newer and better drive as soon as possible.

Yeah I remember the tray-loading iMacs and Powerbook G3 Series 233-300MHz had troubles booting from non-pressed e.g. burned boot CDs. My guess was because, at the time, the pressed boot CDs that shipped with all Macs were 650MB, but we were using the 700MB capacity discs.
Either that or they just didn't "like" the brands of blank CD that we were using.
