How about we make up a folder to discuss the books we've read about our Macs over the years?
Everyone on here has probably read at least one of the classics at some time. The Macintosh Bible, Mac Secrets, The Little Mac Book, Sad Macs, Bombs, and Other Disasters, The Mac is Not a Typewriter, Macs for Dummies, the Larry Pina classics, and even Apple's user manuals all have provided reading material for us at some point. We could discuss them, review them, and even talk about the rarest of the rare (like AppleDesign) and could even share personal stories (like when I met David Pogue).
Anyone else in favor of this?

I'm definitely in favor of this. Macs for Dummies was one of the best books I've read, on technology or not.

I am in favour of this. I found Steve Wozniak's autobiography an interesting read.
I also have a fairly extensive Mac magazine collection if anyone wants to borrow any issues (a few date back to 1985) - I am in Perth, WA.

I have various books on computer history, most of which will cover Apple to some extent, that I should read. Maybe a forum for book-chat would encourage me to chew through the book list.
But honestly, I think that threads are a better idea unless we start seeing an outpouring of book reviews.

Book reviews and notes are more suited for threads. I'm not sure we need an entire forum on it.

The nice thing about having a subfourm for it is that it would keep them orginaized in an easy to find fashion. If we put them in the lounge for example it would easily role off after a couple of days and then I would have to search for them . In a subfourm you could just browse for them.

i think a whole section just for books might be over doing it, but if enough people respond then why not.

Then again, the number of times we see book reviews appear at all isn't exactly frequent either. Although, maybe they'll get more attention with a category for it.

Perhaps a section for apple literature - that can include stuff about books. Anything from original Apple brochures we might have picked up, to unfilled warranty cards with that new-in-box 128k, to copies of the rarer apple tech documentation for entire machines.
That might be neat.

And let's not forget the people who like to write stories where there are 68K Macs involved. In my first novel I wrote I set the story in the 1994-1995 school year and the high school is overflowing with Macs. My second one is set in the present but the Macs are still there thanks to a character who refurbishes them and comes up with new ideas about them (who is sort of based on me).
I've also written short stories involving Macs, from realisitc fiction to fantasy, and am currently writing one that's along the lines of "child development fiction" in which a girl begs her dad for a Mac Classic (in 1991) and gets one while not getting any of the stereotypically female toys. This stems from a conversation one of my profs and I had about gender and toys where she said computers were a stereotypically male toy and that girls were usually not given a big computer/video game system but rather a toy one and then stuff like dolls, horses, teddy bears, etc. The story will be dedicated to my professor, who without a doubt has been my favorite professor so far in my years at college and the one I've learned the most from.

If it was me, they would all be Digital Audios. I think they are probably the best balance of power, price and upgradability right now.
