PowerPC 6100 doesn't boot or even make startup sound
Posted by: austindan on 2014-12-10 14:08:37
hi,

I have a PowerPC 6100 that worked fine up until a month ago. Now, when i turn it on, the HD initially spins (i.e. its getting power) but the screen doesn't show anything and the speaker doesn't make the 'bing' startup sound. OK pls don't laugh but it has been driving me crazy. I have replaced the power supply and the HD but no luck. Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks

Dan

Have you replaced the PRAM battery recently? If it's old you might want to swap in a good one and test again.

I second the pram battery, but also do the customary "double tap" to the power button.

I agree with the PRAM battery

I think the power switch in front is a hard power switch, right? Press that then hit the reset in the back. Press both quickly to get a hardware fault test. At least I think it was both, been a while. And reset the RAM. If the RAM is not seated right, it will not boot.
