Macintosh Classic II
Posted by: Jon183 on 2017-11-01 23:20:21
Just received my Macintosh from the courier, it has a very small chip up the top left but everything else looks fine, it is 100-110v though so ill have to buy a step down converter.

Logic board looks like it needs a wash and recap, removing the battery was a good start, its great that it didn't explode.

Is it possible to convert it to 240v?

Hi,

Analog boards are international, just a jumper to remove or move, never done myself but should be easy.

JP1 should be cut for 220 Vac

Brilliant, thanks.

This is what my plans are:

- Wash then recap the logic board with normal radial electrolytic caps.

- Recap analog board (already put fresh solder where it was needed and snipped JP1).

- Fix the small crack.

- Clean the fan, floppy drive and exterior.

i will use tants instead, but it's just a point of view.

Decided to delay all my projects to 14th of nov as I have exams now. I will probably end up going with tantalum.

Update:

So my aluminium polymer cap install went really well in the LC, just messed up on my LC475 with the tantalum because they were too big, I could use size C instead of D.

I already had all the electrolytic caps for the classic ii so I decided to use them instead, ill install the last cap once the chip is installed.

Ordering a large pile of stuff from element14 including the voltage regulator chip, a tool to insert it and analog board chips tomorrow.

Why are U2 and C4 missing on that logic board?

U2 fell off while swabbing with q-tip due to corrosion. C4 will be installed after the U2 chip is replaced with a new one, hopefully the chip arrives next week.
