| old Macs and 68pin hdd with adapter |
Posted by: CharlieFrown on 2017-10-22 02:44:04 Hi,
I got this perfectly working 9.1 GB scsi hard disk that came with 68-50 pin adapter, used to work fine in Amiga 2000, which is ancient computer. Is there any chance I could get it working with SE/30 or Plus? Anyone tried that before? I am okay with using max 2 GB partition in old systems.
BTW the hard disk has a lot of jumpers, but none of them lets me control the parity...

Posted by: 68krazy on 2017-10-22 21:40:59 Seconded, I had to use an external terminator to get my SE/30 to talk to a 1GB IBM drive. I believe it could be a sign that the Bourns filters on the motherboard are marginal, but I’m not sure.
But yeah, try adding a terminator if nothing else seems to work.

Posted by: Compgeke on 2017-10-23 09:49:17 Yes, it usually does work with 68 pin drives (although 80 are a crap shoot). I do have a few IBM 4.5 gig 68 pin drives that will not work but those drives won't work in most systems.
I also use a terminated cable when throwing a 68 in an old Mac. Here're some pics of that in an SE: https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/28013-my-macintosh-se-that-was-damaged-in-shipping/?p=299807
