PB 3400 - constant pressed shift key!?
Posted by: AlpineRaven on 2017-10-17 22:46:55
Hey all,

Interesting issue I have here, as I've obtained PowerBook 3400c/200mhz - The shift key is depressed constantly - I haven't pressed it at all, I've swapped the keyboard over with another 3400 keyboard that is working to eliminate keyboard issue.

Disconnected the main keyboard, plugged in ADB keyboard in - same thing!!

What would it be caused by to have the Shift key depressed?
When you start it up, extensions is disabled due shift key is depressed - so its not software issue.

You cannot use the trackpad to open apps etc due depressed shift key.

Recap issue?

Cheers

Are you sure there wasn't any corrosion from the pram battery? I want to say the area under the battery is where adb connection is. Every 3400 I've opened I've had to clean at least a little bit of crap off the logic board from the battery which solved random problems.

Confirmed - battery cancer and it has severe damage around that area, tried cleaning up.

It wont even read the 32mb RAM Card attached, random freezes, so going to try locate another logicboard.

Before you give up a lot it times taking a toothbrush to it helped me because it hadn't really eaten anything just had the crystallized crap laying on the board.

Ive tried 3 times now - even used tooth pick around the terminals, connectors etc - the resistors you cannot even read any numbers on them - i have a feeling 2 or 3 resistors has been eaten as its empty there with solder pads there.
