Component ID Help
Posted by: aplmak on 2017-09-28 10:14:11
Can someone help me identify what this component is and a possible replacement??? It's ID'd as "CR".... It was in a small glass tube which is now broken unfortunately.. Possibly a diode?? But what can I put in as a replacement??

It sure looks like a diode, and, I suspect, that CR, way back when they started using it, meant crystal rectifier, which would be a diode.

Without markings on the part itself, or experience with that piece of equipment, I can't guess at the part number.  Perhaps someone with mroe hands-on experience can.

Best bet, IMO, would be to find someone with a non-melted diode and check for markings on it.   I suspect that in that application, on something that old, the exact part number is not that critical as long as it conducts in one direction and not the other.

I would need to see more of what this actually is, and what it is used in to know what value it is.

Ahh, that is part of the lightning protection circuit. its likely a high voltage diode. OR even a sparkgap.
