DAA Adapter - part 820-0445-A

Hello

I need some help identifying this part. I was sure this was from a DuoDock but perhaps not. Could someone help identify for which machine this belongs to please.

I think it does go with a Duo Dock or MiniDock. Outside of the US the dock would have that board (and mini DIN port) rather than a standard RJ-11 phone jack, and there would be some country-specific adapter to connect to the phone jack.

I concur.. I think a Duo Mini Dock.. I think I have one actually with that board in it..

This topic came up in a thread today, It's definitely a Duo MiniDock daughterboard sans the modem bits. Here's the modem type card:

I'd need to check the docking connector pinout. This board is either a standalone modem or a repeater connected to the internal modem via the docking connector.

Dunno what "DAA Adapter" or "Internal DAA" would be? But coupled with the stock power button card in the modem slot it looks to me like the DAA Adapter would be a third serial port connection hung off the modem card slot for use with country specific external modem setups? Were there country specific internal modems for the Duos? If not, the third serial port hung off the modem slot theory would make sense.

Oldie but goodie thread here. Does anyone know what DAA stands for?

I'm really curious about folks outside of North America. How do you use Modems in PowerBooks in RJ-11 TelCo interface deprivation zones? I only briefly used them in PowerBook 100 and Duo 230, opting for faster externals conveniently available in tiny portable PowerBook gray cases with ADB port power cables.

At its most extreme, a software modem is just a

DAA (data access arrangement): the most basic part of a modem that makes the physical interface between the relatively high voltage analog phone line and public phone network (on one side) and the lower voltage, digital modem circuits (on the other), ensuring the two can safely talk to one another.



So that's why the MiniDock Internal DAA card looks like an extra internal modem, apparently it is? Its Soft Modem hardware hangs off the modem connector on the end of the MiniDock. The MiniDock is a pared down Slot E multiple function expansion card version of the DuoDock Logic Board which is also a "PDS CARD" with more functions built in. Both hang off the 030 PDS Duo Docking Connector. The DAA Adapter for the MiniDock expects external hardware to the dirty work, feeding it serial port type data? Sounds a lot like the Stealth Serial Port setup hung off the Modem Port in a B&W G3?
