Flower Power imac inner grey casing
Posted by: reallyrandy on 2017-07-28 10:56:03
Does anyone know offhand (before I spend a bunch of time researching) which other imac models use the same inner grey casing as a Flower Power imac?

I bought a Flower imac and the grey casing got broken by Fed Ex. I'm going to try and buy a non working imac locally to salvage the inner plastic–which means I'll have extra parts if anyone needs them.

Thanks

If I recall correctly they all had the grey plastic inner case.  Most of the imacs I've seen lately have at least a few cracks there, some catastrophic others minor.  My flower power has a few cracks too.

Good luck with that!  What a great computer!

They are not all the same. I tried using a Grape to fix my Blue Dalmatian with no success.

In my experience there are only two internal layouts though. And in my experience they are all shattered or far, far too brittle to successfully remove from one and put in another.

In my case I had a lack of that part so in desperation I taped all the shattered pieces together and used that, meaning the supporting frame is the outer one now not the inner one.

I think the split (pun only somewhat intended) was the between the tray loading and the slot loading models.  I've never had to swap the internal frame on a tray loader but I've swapped a whole bunch on the slot loaders and didn't have any issue swiping a good one from a Graphite to rescue a Ruby, among others.

That's good news. There are several imacs that are not working for sale on Offerup and CL here. I can pick one up for $25 and swap the chassis.

I have a FP with the same disintegrating inner case.  Terrible design with the plastic they chose that can't take the heat generated inside the case.  Brittle is an understatement.  I glued mine in several places.  You have to look close to see the cracks now.
