| Cheap, Quick and Dirty flexable SE/30 PDS extender |
Posted by: toledogeek on 2017-06-29 02:59:49 Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster.
Like many of you, Ive been trying out the super-cheap radius pivot color card in my SE/30. Ive ordered a TwinSpark card, but who knows when/if it'll arrive. besides, i'm pretty sure it STILL wont fit. so what to do?
My solution might not be the most "proper" out there, but it'll get the case back on.

Here are the Digikey parts you'll need:
1x A32826-ND
1x A1289-ND
3x 1528-1379-ND
Assembly is simple, and tedious. you'll need to push each plug with a pick to ensure tight contact.... Do this properly 240 times and you're all set. tape it up to keep it tight. no soldering involved.

It's probably not the most durable extender, but allows you to bend and twist those cards in any way you can make them fit. It would probably be a good idea to back your cards with Plexi or something.

Some of you might be worried about interference and the like. Ive not had any issues in the few days I've run it, were only dealing with a 16MHz bus to begin with, it'll survive the 8 inch trip. I've worked in industrial electronics for years, and have seen busses like this wide open in racks on 6 foot cables. |
Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2017-06-29 06:50:11 Sweet! Looks plenty proper enough to me. PCI slot extender/adapter cables for 1U RackBoxen run at crazy clock rates as compared to the SE/30.
We tested our ISA card with Centronics 50 interface (SCSI IDC connectors/ribbon cable) to our Font Emulator Contraption on a 50' TelCo cable to make sure the cable drivers could handle the load. I'd almost bet you could use the M-F version of those breadboard cables to get 16" of length and position the card anywhere you wanted in the bucket.
Welcome aboard!

I ordered one of those cards IIsi pivot cards as well and when I plug it in and turn the Mac on it chimes but then just sits at a grey screen without the cursor appearing.
I guess the jumpers on the card are for selecting the slot ID. Did you have to change those?
I plugged the card directly into the logicboard.
