Help me buy a external CD burner (Color Classic)
Posted by: mraroid on 2017-06-13 09:54:22
Hi...

I want to check the trading post here and maybe ebay.  But I need to ask a few questions first.

I would like to buy a external CD (CD/DVD?) burner for my Color Classic II.  I hope to upgrade my CC with a 575 logic board one day, but for now it is a CC II.

Can anyone recommend a burner to me?  SCSI, but what kind?  And what kind of speeds can I expect?  Any brands or model numbers someone can suggest?

If you have something you think I could use, please contact me.,  I want to read up a little bit and then buy something.

Thanks

I may have a SCSI Yamaha burner that you may have, but I would have to check if it works with System 7.

For the most part you need to get a copy of Toast for 68K mac and see which drives are usable. I think pretty much any SCSI drive is supported so you can just buy an external SCSI enclosure and pop a burner of your choosing in there if you can find a complete one.

ArmorAlley...  Thank you for the kind offer.  My color classic boots to 7.6.1 and after a future upgrade I hope to run 8.1 on it as well.  So if it will run under a classic OS like this, I am interested.  Do you have pay pal?  I can pay pal you shipping costs.  You can send me the model number if you like and I can start digging around to see if it will run under 7.6. I don't care what speed it will burn, I just need something that will burn a CD.

Thanks!!

Thank you Unknown_K for your post.  I did down load a copy of Toast, but it wanted a serial number.  Clicking on the link to buy it, the link went nowhere.

I am confused by the many versions of toast that are available.  Mostly I will be using my CC under 7.6.1.  But in the future,  I hope to install a LC 575 board and then I hope to install OS 8.1.

I have read about the file format that my Color Classic (under 7.6.1) uses called HFS.  I know another file format is around called HFS+.  Is OS 8.1 also HFS?  If so maybe I can find a version of Toast that will run under OS 8.1.....

I will start looking around for Toast.

Thanks for the tip.
