Ultimate Zip Disk for Compact Macs.
Posted by: IlikeTech on 2017-06-04 17:30:40
Hello, I recently got a Zip disk drive, and I decided to make a massive bootable collection of games and utilities. So, I'm looking for selections on what to include. I have about 90 mb of space available after installing system 6, Iomega extension, and some games, as well as Lido and Pmount.

Please let me know what I should add, and when I'm done, I'll try and upload an image of the disk.

Thanks so much,

IlikeTech

Troubleshooting utilities. Dunno what runs on 6, but anything along the lines of hardware reports as in TattleTech would be great to have on there.

A second image with 7.0.1/TuneUp as the OS with games and utilities would be great as well.

Hmm. Can you partition a Zip disk? As far as diagnostic utilities go, I'll check the garden for some stuff. Also, I might just switch the whole thing to system 7.0.1.

Thanks

...or make a Version on sys 6 and one with sys 7?

Think you would have to stick with 6.0.8, makes sense for most machines of the era.

Include a handful of shareware games from back in the day, so you don't have to worry about copyright issues either.

The modified HD setup program also, FWB...

I might also include disinfectant, because it still can be useful.

It looks like I'm gonna have to use system 7.0.1 for the most compatibility. I will be sure to use the system tuneup package.

So, at the moment I have:

System 7.0.1 universal

Tuneup

StuffIt expander 4.0.1

FWB ToolKit PE

SilverLining

Pmount

Lido

Patched drive setup

Disinfectant

TattleTech

Any other specific things? Any game suggestions?

Thanks

Would think some shareware, such as Maelstrom, Shufflepuck, Stunt Copter, etc, but would be great to see After Dark modules too.

Hmm. Can you partition a Zip disk?
That's an intriguing question!

I know that the patched Apple HD SC Setup can initialize it such that a Zip disk behaves like a normal internal hard disk, so maybe it can partition them as well? I've never tried as I've had no need to, but I bet it could.

I'd like to see the standard media tools as well, i.e., MacPaint, MacDraw, MacWrite or maybe SuperPaint, WriteNow and CricketDraw.

SCSI Probe

Virex

Resedit

MacTCP

maybe some networking tools

Pyro

Moire

After Dark (all the modules you can get)

ATM

Some Theme stuff, Kaleidoscope, etc.
