I have a DP KVM that I'd love to hook my Quadra 840av to if I had the ADB-USB and video converter.
I'm guessing it would have to be externally powered, seeing as how similar devices, like StarTech's VGA to HDMI converter (https://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video/VGA-to-HDMI-Portable-Adapter-Converter-USB-Audio-Power-1080p~VGA2HDU), borrow USB power, which obviously is not available on Macs of that vintage.
Any enterprising souls looking for a new project? ;D
| Posted by: BadGoldEagle on 2017-05-18 03:07:35 Well, it ain't easy or cheap:
1/ DB-15 to VGA (easy to find but you probably already have one lying around)
2/ VGA to HDMI (http://www.ebay.com/itm/VGA-Male-To-HDMI-Output-1080P-HD-Audio-TV-AV-HDTV-Video-Cable-Converter-Adapter-/132117262653)
3/ HDMI to MiniDP (https://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video/hdmi-displayport-converter-4k~HD2DP)
Grab a usb wall adapter (http://www.ebay.com/itm/5V-2100mA-Universal-Home-Wall-AC-to-2-Port-USB-Adapter-Charger-Black/371342134195) and you're good to go...
| Posted by: Macsimus on 2017-05-18 20:29:09 Well, yeah, I could do that, but I'm looking for something more elegant. The Macintosh way... ;D
| Posted by: Themk on 2017-05-18 20:37:54 I could figure out how to stuff all of those in a box, with a common power connector. That's about all I could do in this department.
How those adaptors handle the interesting HSYNC and VSYNC frequencies of some/most mac resolutions? I couldn't tell you, but I wouldn't expect much there. The sync signals are pretty hostile to modern LCDs and such.
By the way video switching is a planned feature for my ADB switching box, making it a true KVM switch. This doesn't solve your analog->digital problem, as it will be analog switching, but it would allow you to use multiple macs with one monitor.
