| Drawing tablet compatible with OS 9? (Non USB Mac) |
Posted by: SuperToaster on 2017-05-17 09:25:16 Hello, I have a Powerbook G3 Wallsteet, which I want to use Adobe Illustrator 9 with a drawing tablet. Which model would be compatible, and have drivers for Mac OS 9? And it can't be USB, since this model doesn't have USB ports. Can someone point me to a model that would be compatible?
I was looking at the Wacom UD-1212-R, will it work? Other recommendations are welcome as well.
Thanks a lot!

Posted by: mrpippy on 2017-05-17 11:52:01 pre-USB Mac drawing tablets used ADB, not serial. There was an old artPad2 that sold on Goodwill the other day: https://www.shopgoodwill.com/viewItem.asp?ItemID=39483179
Wacom also made newer ADB Intuos tablets and there's a few on eBay, search for model # GD-0608-A. There were other sizes made in ADB too, like GD-0912-A (9x12", ADB). Check out their site on internet archive: https://web.archive.org/web/20010203142100/http://www.wacom.com:80/productinfo/intuos9x12.html

EDIT: oops, I accidentally just bought a UD-608-A, hope it works fine.

Posted by: mrpippy on 2017-05-17 13:19:18 I think a UD-608 is older, Wacom still has OS 9 drivers on their site but they're listed as being for Intuos/Intuos2. Not sure if they'll work for a UD-608 or if you'll need to dig up something older. http://cdn.wacom.com/U/drivers/mac/478/macclassic_pro/Mac_478_2_EN.hqx

Your WS supports PCMCIA & PC-Cards. Get yourself a USB PC-Card. It is the easiest way to add FireWire and PCMCIA to your WS.
That Wacom ArtPad II in the link is super. I had one 20 years ago.

pre-USB Mac drawing tablets used ADB, not serial. Until low power ADB tablets were developed, early tablets were indeed serial devices with their own power sources. Mine's the 12" Wacom pressure sensitive model built on a slanted base with internal PSU. I've got both stylii and the puck for doing CAD work. Time to haul it out for some playtime! [🙂] ]'>
