Will a 128MB SIMM run in a Color Classic II motherboard?
Posted by: mraroid on 2017-05-07 08:57:19
Hi folks...

I have about 34MBs of RAM in my Color Classic II motherboard.  I have a 128MB SIMM that will fit that memory slot.

Will it work?  If I plug in this SIMM and it fails, I won't hurt anything right?  I just unplug it and put the old one back in?

I bought this memory along with a Performa 575 board to do the Mystic upgrade.  The upgrade has yet to happen.

Advice appreciated.

Thanks

My SIMM:

128 MBs

72p

60 ns

16c

16 X 4

1RX 4

EDO

5V

and if it will work, can I turn off memory checking so the Color Classic will boot faster???

Unfortunately that CCII/LC550 motherboard maxes out at 36MB.

If you were to use a 575 board (aka Mystic) you can use 128MB sticks.

Thank you omidimo.  Guess I had better read up on that 575 upgrade....

I tried a 128MB SIMM in a Quadra 630, it works brilliantly. I would imagine that 575 and 580 work similarly. I don't think that LC 550 supports 128MB SIMMs.

Should support 'em right up to the artificial memory ceiling. It's a waste of a high capacity SIMM but if there's no pressing need to use it ATM, a more suitable replacement ought to turn up in a new conquest before long for a memory swap.

Ahh, okay thats good info. I thought you wouldn't boot with an unsupported SIMM, but now that I think about it, it does make sense. A waste of a 128MB SIMM though to put it in a machine like that.
