Recapped LCiii boot issue
Posted by: patatas on 2017-05-07 01:14:15
I just finished recapping my LCiii and obviously did not do a great job!

When I power on I hear the boot chime and then immediately I hear some of melody in the form of chords...3 going up and then 3 going down.

No video signal.

Could be the "chimes of death"... The tones mentioned in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTwmtvrdJlQ sound like they might match what you describe.

Also mentioned here: https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/26255-lc-iii-chimes-of-death/

You might get a magnifying glass out and search for chip or trace damage.

I will be interested to hear about your results... I have an LC III, my only 68k mac. It needs recapping too, I imagine.

There was one capacitor on LC III models that was installed backwards from the factory. If you used ceramic capacitors, it wont matter, however if you used tantalum that capacitor may go eventually in smoke.

See this thread: https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/19752-lciii-recap-apple-design-fault-47uf-reversed/

Also wash the board and check your work. Also clean all the SIMMs.
