| 475/605 motherboard in 550 |
Posted by: Geforce2187 on 2017-04-22 19:02:36 The 475 and 605 can be upgraded to a 68040 33 MHz (or possibly the 40 MHz???)
Is it possible to install the 475 or 605 motherboard in the 550 all-in-one?
This

says it's possible, but online I don't see any slot connector on the 475/605 motherboard that the 550 has

Posted by: Danamania on 2017-04-22 19:24:15 I suspect somewhere along the way someone has mixed up that the 575 and 475/605 boards (which are meant to be pretty much the same logically) are compatible physically, and they're not.
It'd be worth dropping a message to lowendmac and letting them know that's wrong.

Posted by: Geforce2187 on 2017-04-22 19:39:53 The 550 can't take the 580 or 630 board because they use IDE instead of SCSI, correct? Or do those boards support SCSI as well as IDE?
|
Posted by: Macdrone on 2017-04-22 20:11:31 they cannot take it. They do support scsi still externally but not internally. I am not sure if you could just put an ide drive in place of the scsi drive and change the board as I have not tried but i dont think the cables are the same.

Is there any difference between the 550 and 575 models besides the motherboard? The 550 uses a caddy cdrom drive.
