All you need is the Updater 3.01, right?
Here ya go, the original .sit file is enclosed in a zip file (to let IP.Board allow me to upload the file)
Giga Designs Updater 3.0.1.sit.zip

Posted by: Macdrone on 2017-04-05 09:17:49 i have the cd dmg if you need to burn it. My cube needed the actual disk for firmware updating.

Posted by: Themk on 2017-04-05 09:19:40 It is an installer .pkg bundle. I don't think you will need the actual disk, but I may be wrong.

Posted by: Macdrone on 2017-04-05 09:22:52 I had to be on OS9 and have the disk in the actual CD/DVD drive for the updater to run per the read me file. It goes through open firmware button pressing and the like on the cube, I didnt read the tower section, but it would seem it would be the same.

Posted by: Themk on 2017-04-05 09:24:58 OS 9? The package I have is for Mac OS X...
Sounds like there may be two different versions of the 3.01 updater...

Posted by: Macdrone on 2017-04-05 09:30:32 the update once done works for OS X and OS 9 but per firmware says must boot into OS9 to update firmware and such.
NOTE: If the Boot ROM Version is earlier than 4.1.9, reboot the system under OS 9. The Apple Power Mac G4 Firmware Update will run only On Power Mac G4 models with AGP graphics running Mac OS 9.1 or later from a local hard disk. If you are using Mac OS X on your Power Mac G4, you must start up from a local Mac OS 9.1 or later writeable partition (not a CD or network disk) before following the update instructions.

Posted by: Themk on 2017-04-05 10:11:27 I think that is talking about the Power Mac G4 firmware update from Apple? If so, yeah you need OS9 for that upgrade. I don't think that upgrade is necessary if you have 4.1.9 or later.

Posted by: Macdrone on 2017-04-05 14:21:56 its listed as most usual users never updated firmware. Almost every mac I have ever bought had firmware that needed updating. I had to update my cube and a quicksilver to get a giga and a sonnet to work and its over a decade old right?
