Upgrading Pismo boot rom to 4.1.8f5 or newer?
Posted by: FacnyFreddy on 2017-04-03 16:32:29
I don't see alot of articles on this.

My main pismo has a v3 boot rom

My secondary/test has a v4.1.8f5 boot room and it sees the G4 board just fine.

Any help is appreciated.

Found the firmware updater out on macupdate.... had to do some hunting. (Apple tech article ended up in the waste bin of the internet and is lost for good)

https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/5658/apple-powerbook-firmware#

Still getting an odd bit of feedback in system profiler.

I know for a fact that the only way to update the firmware on a clamshell is to drop it back down to 9.1 then update it. Seeing that these machines are from a similar era, it maybe similar.

Maybe LightBulbFun can help you out with this, you should probably PM him!

check this out: http://comp.sys.mac.portables.narkive.com/zu2ehdUW/os-9-22-pismo-4-1-8-firmware-update

Looks like you will need 9.1 to update the firmware to 4.1.8

Yup, thats what I had to do.

Install my hacked PRAM battery (which does not currently fit into the brown "blanket" of the bottom case) and let it charge for an hour.

Boot into a fresh 9.1 image and then run the firmware upgrade utility (twice!)

Then I reset the pram, crossed my fingers, and then tested it out.

I pulled the pram battery and installed my G4 board and then loaded a DVD into the drive bay with OS 10.4.11 and everything works PERFECTLY!!!

If you have the G4 board, might as well install 10.5!
