Quadra 950 - working or not, requesting some guidance
Posted by: Alex on 2017-03-30 06:11:03
Dear members

I just purchased a Quadra 950 and it arrived safe and sound. The seller claimed that the power supply only clicked. My 4 year old daughter turned the key while just after I pressed a power button on the front facing panel and there was a chime, a loud healthy fan and a power light.

Now, I have no monitor to check and there is no HD.

Is this enough to confirm the machine works or should I ideally try something further. There also appears to be a 601 PDS card and a very large card that I suspect is a video card and gobs of RAM.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks!

I would say a startup chime is fairly indicative of a working computer. Though a startup chime is a good sign, it doesnt necessarily mean your video card works. Next step is to go find a monitor, and plug it in!

Hi Themk

I would agree with the chime being a good sign. I have a bunch of Apple monitors but none that would plug in. The built-in video and the card both appear to host a DB-15, is that what these are called? Is there anyway to connect up to an RGB input, HDMI or ADC. I think those are all the monitor types I have otherwise I have to purchase a vintage Apple monitor.

Any thoughts, I have google and will investigate this but maybe you have some first hand info.

Cheers and thanks for the reply.

[nitpick]

It is technically a DA-15 connector, but you get the idea

[/nitpick]

I take it this is your first desktop 68k? Anyways, it is easy to convert the mac monitor output to VGA. See my setup, which is described in another thread for more details.
