Compact mac crt swaps?

Of the top of your heads, could one swap a classic II monitor into an se/30? (Well splicing on connectors anyway)

Thx

Yes. Other than connectors, all compact mac CRTs are compatible, excluding the Color Classic. Best to either dissect the connectors or use solder with shrink tube when splicing.

Are you talking about the connector to the analog board or the connector on the CRT itself? I think the late model Classics and all Classic II CRTs have a different pinout to the earlier compact Macs. Perhaps you could swap the entire CRT neck board and splice the wires to the analog board, but I'm not sure about changing CRT sockets.

Why would you need to splice anything?

Unscrew the locking screw, and just remove the whole yoke!

Swap the CRT, put the proper yoke back on, plug the neck board in, and turn it on, check the picture centering, twist and turn the yoke to center it up and lock it back down by tightening the screw...

I have a video on this very thing on youtube.

@techknight so is it only the neck PCB and perhaps the yoke that changed? From the Compact Mac CRT Guide thread I had always assumed the CRT itself had changed pinout or socket from early compact Macs to later Classics, but reading it again I guess it might only be the connectors on the analog board.

Nope, the CRT pinout is identical.

Only thing you need to swap is the bare CRT. Save the yoke and etc from the original system.

Black and white CRT change-outs between alot of gear is the easiest thing to do in the tech industry.

Color CRTs... WEll... not so much.

As the author of the Compact Mac CRT Guide, I can assure you that it's the connector that's different.

The CRT itself is identical. The connectors are not.

This goes for both Samsung and Clinton CRTs.
