IIcx Cap Polarity
Posted by: CompuNurd on 2014-11-16 13:29:39
I am recapping the IIcx today. I didn't see polarity markings on these two caps. I would assume they follow the others but want to be sure so I don't blow up anything.

My phone was being stupid, here's the picture.

Usually the caps are all in the same relative direction, but on my board those two are opposite the ones above. So based on your photo, left is positive.

Now I must ask this: On uniserver's capacitor reference, there are only 3 47uF capacitors in this area, here there are 4. I am guessing this is a different revision board?

There is 4, he simply forgot to mark one. If you look close, you can see it. Its not tilted the same as the other, so no glare.

I have some good news and some bad news.

Bad news is the power supply still ticks even after adding another diode of the same type with the existing one. https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/23952-macintosh-iicx-psu-problems/

I said I got two new diodes, but I only ended up getting one.

I do hear temperature is important in startup. I am working on this in a 45F garage, so I might move it inside then try it again in an hour.

Good news is you can hear the chime every time the power supply clicks, so the board recap was successful!
