strange behavior with a Classic II Logic Board
Posted by: bibilit on 2017-03-01 23:37:49
I  recapped a Classic II board two weeks ago, booted fine and worked great.

A couple of days, wanted to play with it, and only get a dark screen or thin bars.

I tried flexing the board, pressing the reset switch...sometimes works, sometimes not, from time to time the board works fine on its own also.

I double checked my work, the board was not damaged by the battery either.

can i have a problem with the onboard ram ? (when the board works, the process is a bit long...)

I have one of those as well, though I was not the one who did the recapping to it. I haven't seen anything like that, but the RAM check on boot is indeed super slow. Not sure of the exact time it took, but I do know there are 2MB of memory soldered to the board itself. Not sure if these can typically go bad, though.

Have you recapped the analog board as well ? A dark screen and the board not booting, probably from a cold start indicates there are power issues coming from the analog board.
The capacitors on the analog board are leaking at the bottom, difficult to see from the outside. You need to recap the analog board.

Recapped also, checked the outputs, both 5 v and 12 v are solid.
