| look what happened to my PlusED |
Posted by: CharlieFrown on 2017-02-24 08:42:27 hi, I left it too close to this nasty ikea desk lamp and see what happened, warped plastic, not to mention ugly discoloration.
What would you do? Try to heat it with heatgun from the internal side and use glass to flatten surface?
I really hate it, because it's not so common Plus ED version...

Posted by: SlateBlue on 2017-02-24 09:24:57 I would not attempt to heat the plastic at all as it'll lead to more damage. Replacement is the best option, but maybe not practical for you. Herb at retrotechnology.com might have a replacement front bezel.

Posted by: rsolberg on 2017-02-24 14:41:14 I'd get rid of that lamp too- if it's causing damage like that with the correct bulb and shade installed, it's a fire hazard.

Posted by: unity on 2017-02-24 14:46:04 Bummer 🙁 And an ED too. There really is nothing you can do to repair it.

Posted by: Daniël on 2017-02-24 14:52:32 Damn. This happened to my family's DVD cases of the Sims 2 games, we always had them in the computer shelve next to the monitor, and there was a desk lamp above it. Burned right through the plastic tops, causing discoloration on the inlays. The discs still work fine though. Nothing as bad as this ED 🙁

Posted by: BadGoldEagle on 2017-02-24 23:27:07 Wow. Jez. Didn't know this could happen. Lamps are now banned from my Mac room.

Posted by: K55 on 2017-02-24 23:44:45 Herb updates his site but he never gets back to me.
He's literally 10 minutes from where I live but I'll probably only get to see him at VcfEast.

Posted by: Brett B. on 2017-02-25 07:53:00 Since the damage is done... I'd try to make a mold of the undamaged part, fit it over the melted section, and heat it from the back with a heat gun to see if you can melt it back into the right shape. Then a scrub with a magic eraser and maybe a retro Brite treatment to even out the color... Can't hurt it much more, what do you have to lose.

Is he still around? I tried reaching out to him via his oddly specific email format a couple months ago and never got a reply. I was able to reach out to him several months ago to get parts for my SE/30. Sometimes I had to press him for a response after waiting a few days. I agree his system is different.

Herb is still around. I just traded e-mails with him today. I checked his site for Mac Plus case parts, did not see any. You'd be better off picking up a non functional plus for the case parts.
