Mac Portable non-backlit "murky" LCD

Posted by: Byrd on 2017-02-16 02:53:29 Hi, I've spent some time resurrecting my brother's Macintosh Portable M5120 non-backlit, having re-capped the board and rebuilt the battery.  The history of the unit it was that is was used up until the late 90's and stored away unused. Much to my delight, it booted up (with a little coaxing - the first few starts it was rough, the HD wouldn't spin up etc) to the desktop.  The LCD is odd however; it looks clear but shortly after being powered on the left side of the panel gets darker and patchy - a kind of "murky" appearance.  Powered down, the murkiness is still present but disappears after a few minutes. Noting this doesn't have backlighting, can anyone shed light on this issue, is it screen caps or is one of the transflective films on the LCD out of alignment? Thanks JB

Posted by: Juror22 on 2017-02-16 07:04:38 Is there any difference between starting it with battery only or battery+adapter - I guess what I am thinking is a power issue.  Have you checked the output of the power adapter?

Mac Portables that have been stored in humid areas will get moisture inbetween the glass and LCD. https://68kmla.org/forums/index.php?/topic/14107-the-end-of-a-pb170-lcd/I fixed this once by leaving a screen in a sealed bucket with silica gel but it took a few months.
