Apple Older Software Downloads

Is anyone else having trouble getting to the page? I just get redirected to the generic support page.

I also found this article http://support.apple.com/kb/TA48312?viewlocale=en_US which makes it seem as they are no longer offering any of those downloads from before?

Yup. Looks like apple finally purged their system. All legacy downloads gone.

The download links are all still good. Should I grab them all while I can and throw them into an ISO?

For example : http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/Modem/Apple_Modem_Updater.smi.bin still works.

I can run through the page and make a notepad file with every link and just run wget on all of it

Time to fire off an email to Tim Cook.

I don't think this is against the rules, since these files were all public just a week ago, but here's a few useful things.

Pastebin of each link for each file, these are all still working. Grab them now, they could dissappear whenever. http://pastebin.com/VrBtKkG4

edit: here's a MEGA link to the entire site, I just ripped it about 15 minutes ago. All files were verified to be non zero-byte, so I think I got it all. https://mega.co.nz/#!j5dhEDYL!IjxTCwHqmgkCIN3eUJbFbIt9t52rUouDQdBZNBcC7DQ

Well, my System 7.5 disks just became a whole lot more valuable. Thankfully I still have the 7.5.3 and 7.5.5 files as well.

Oh my.   Well, this is a troubling development.   Something needs to be done about this.

See a few posts above for an added link to all files.

Nice link, snagging the file at 1.9MB/sec.

I'm downloading it right now.  Thanks.

Getting it too. I'd actually previously considered downloading everything on that list, just in case.

At any rate, I did send an email to Tim about it. Maybe we can get it back up. They've been purging old Support articles for some time now, but I was hoping that page would be spared.

They should just release everything before 1999. Let us have official images of System .97.

I've considered that, but I'm pretty sure there was a lot of licensed technology in System 7.6 and beyond that prevented them from releasing them for free.

it would be nice if Tim would release all the legacy support notes, and software as one big package to download. or maybe legacy.apple.com. But I am dreaming, i know....

I actually suggested that. If a response is coming it will probably take a little bit, as he's got to read it, forward it, then wait until he hears back.

This was a big resource for us I'm sad to see it go...

I have a online mirror of apples old server, I downloaded it all in mid 2013 when it was already getting flakey

did anyone rip all the tech notes, and knowledge base articles for all the legacy stuff?

Posted by: TheWhiteFalcon on 2014-11-13 17:21:00
They've been culling that stuff for years, unfortunately.
