| ATA PCI Card for 9600-Recommendations? |
Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-02-09 20:03:07 I'm obtaining a Power Macintosh 9600 which does not have a hard disk. Rather than buying a SCSI one, I'd rather buy an ATA PCI card and use the 80GB IDE hard disk I have just...laying around. However, I don't really know anything about ATA controller cards and I definitely don't know which ones are Mac compatible so that's where you guys come in! I've already had Sonnet cards recommended to me but haven't had any luck actually FINDING one...I'd prefer an ATA100 card over an ATA66, but otherwise it doesn't matter which card it is as long as it will work.

Sonnet made some good ones and there are some excellent Acard ones too. Here is one:

Posted by: omidimo on 2017-02-09 21:54:56 I only did a low bid on it to get a donor machine for my 9600/350 in case I need parts in the future. Nice that you got it at a good price.
The Acards can be a little pricy, but they work well. You can always try a SATA card, but you should look at this thread.

Posted by: maceffects on 2017-02-09 23:57:13 See if you can get a Sonnet Tempo SATA PCI card, I use one on my WGS 9650/350 with SSD drives. I also purchased 1.5gb of ram from OWC, a nice upgrade if you have a little extra to spend.

Posted by: CharlesT on 2017-03-08 12:52:53 Not a whole lot cheaper but headgap.com has what looks like that ACard 133 for $50 and free shipping. Not associated with headgap in any way

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2017-03-08 13:05:29 I ended up getting a card, but thanks for that anyway.
