i have a Macintosh with the above sad mac error, tried piggypacking some chips (new ones from a previous repair -ordered for a 512k but apparently can be used also) but even piggypacking all of them didn't worked.

Maybe i am wrong...

SOLVED

Was looking for a a single sad mac error, was wrong.

http://www.gla.ac.uk/~gwm1h/Error_Codes/Sad_Mac_Codes.html

Should be read 04 40009

04 = Memory test - Mod3 test

then 4000

(G11 4000)

then 0001

(F5 0001)

then 0008

(F8 0008)

4000 + 0001+ 0008 = 40009 simply brilliant !!   🙂

so three chips were bad ( G11 / F5 and F8)

I should remove the remaining ones  🙁

Good job m8!

Didn't know you could diagnose which ones were faulty when more than one chip was toast... Always thought the number was random or something (again only when multiple ICs are bad). Nice Hunting job!

Yeah, that Apple RAM is crap. Same type used on the IIc. All of these will go wrong at some point.
