| Strange error message under 7.5.5 |

Under 7.5.5, clicking on the control panel item 'Apple menu options' triggers the error message 'the control panel apple menu options could not be opened, because an error of type -40 occurred'. All other control panel items seem to work fine. Any thoughts as to the potential cause?

Try restarting with extensions disable (hold shift key while starting up until you see extensions disable). Once the computer is running, try opening the control panel again. If it works, maybe an extension conflict with the control panel. If not, try reinstalling just that control panel with a custom install from the install media.
I've never had that problem before but hopefully this will push you in the right direction 🙂 which machine are you on?

Thanks - the problem was on an SE/30. Â I ended up reinstalling the OS and that fixed the problem. Â I assume that some file got corrupted.
