USB mouse wheel on OS 9
Posted by: jamie marchant on 2016-12-28 07:44:37
Do you know of any software that lets me use my mouse well on OS 9?

Logitech has MouseWare drivers for the Mac, Microsoft has IntelliSense software and Alessandro Levi Montalcini has very useful software called USB OverDrive. All of this academic in the sense that every USB mouse that I've stuck into my B&W G3 works with the built-in drivers in Mac OS 9.2.2.

What do you mean by 'well'?

"well" seems to be a typo. I must have originally written a different sentence with the word 'will' in it. Thank you I'll check those out. I have a Microsoft mouse, so I will try  IntelliSense.

EDIT: I think we mean IntelliPoint.

Give USB Overdrive a try.Scroll wheel is a little slow on my Quicksilver, but it beats having no function at all!

You are correct - it's not IntelliSense, to be sure, although the SQL Server Management Studio may yet be coming to the Mac.

+1 to this. iirc the OS 9 version was even released free on some site or another. I have it on my Powermac 9600 and scroll wheel is quite nice to have.

I just tried the IntelliPoint driver. It works fine for my needs. I only need to plug the mouse into the USB hub on my KVM and not use the PS/2 adaptor. Also I know think my typo was supposed to be the word 'wheel'. LOL

Updated thread title to say "USB mouse wheel" so that it's easier to find. Glad to hear it worked for you!

I use to check every computer branded USB mouse I came across to see if it was Logitech because I knew I could get the right click and scroll wheel to work in OS 9.

That because academic after I found USB Overdrive, though-not only is it much more capable but also works with almost every mouse I've found. The one exception is the Apple Mighty Mouse 🙂
