2 Macintosh XL's (or are they Lisa's?)
Posted by: tappdarden on 2016-12-23 19:29:16
Got two of these recently through craigslist.

Haven't had time to look over them yet. both have pretty dim screens. But do power and beep. Have the keyboards that go with them. But couldn't find the mice for them.

No software or anything.

I'm pretty excited. I have been looking for 1 .. didn't' expect to find any.

What were they listed as in the Craigslist ad?  Just a little curious.

I don't know why folks don't keep the mice with these, but I knew a guy that thought he had one (just the mouse) buried in his garage - he has promised to pass it along, if he ever finds it.  He didn't have the Lisa anymore, just the mouse... weird.

Terrific find and congratulations!

Mice used to be a dime a dozen in surplus. I think it's because they continued selling the mice as a card-based add-on for the IIe after the Plus was discontinued (the last model to ship with one).

The Lisa mouse itself is less common, plus some Lisa 2s actually had the Plus-style mouse with them (my 2/10 has the Plus mouse).

Mac and Apple II mice are common as dirt but the legit Lisa mice are not but since they are interchangeable it's the ideal solution when you don't want to pay $LOL for a mouse.

the Craigslist ad was something like "Room full of macs to many to list" or some such.

I do have some mice for older macs and even some that came with a apple ii card. So one of them will probably work?

I looked closer. looks like one has a scsi card and a hard drive. Thats neat?

Now if only i can figure out why the screens are so dim.

There are adjustment knobs on the back.. one for focus and one for brightness... There are also POTS adjustment knobs on the video board inside. You really have to know what your doing before you go in there.. Very dangerous high voltage!!! I recap my video boards and replace the POTS dials... for some reason they go bad... They are available on ebay.. I also recap my power supplies.. Again be sure you know what you are doing before taking em apart and recapping..

Yeah, i open toaster macs and am careful with the high voltage.

Thing i need to learn / get good at first is recapping tho.
