Duo 2300C: Sad Mac
Posted by: JAMMARob on 2016-12-20 12:16:01
I recently picked up a Duo 2300C that is in excellent physical condition.

The only problem:

I have removed the RAM expansion and it has made no difference. Could it be internal RAM?

It also plays the chime of death 🙁

Yeah it could be bad internal RAM

Did you try resetting the PRAM

When I was rebuilding my 190cs, I did get the same 0000000F 00000001 error, and I found it was the trackpad cable not connected all the way... I'd recommend checking inside the machine for loose connections (for trackpad, RAM, HDD, keyboard, etc.)

Be careful pulling that apart.. It is tricky.. I would google the official apple take apart guide.. The way you remove the upper cover (not the display).. it has tabs on the front right that often break if not removed properly...

If it was shipped to you, definitely get the ServiceSource, tear her down and make sure nothing rattled loose in there. Sounds like it might not be ship shape in that department.

Keep a finger on the metal chassis (called a heat spreader as well) at all times while futzing around in there. If you're not wearing a well grounded antistatic strap, that's the very least you can do and a fairly effective way to prevent damage from ESD.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I cracked it open and reseated everything but no bueno. I'll swap out the RAM on the logic board and see where that gets me.
