Yanking game from cd to hd... and playing it in OS 9
Posted by: MJ313 on 2016-12-13 07:27:20
OK, pretty easy question probably for some of you. Back in the day... when I was a younger, smarter version of myself... I remember yanking Warcraft 2 off the CD into a disk image so I could simply open said disk image and play it without needing the cd in the drive.

Years later, how to do that escapes me. What software would I need to make that happen?

Thanks much

Disk Copy 6 that comes with OS9 works great for making a disc image.  I did that with THPS2 and it worked great, you just have to make sure you're doing a disc image (full partition) that's read only, not read only compressed.

As said, disk copy works great for this. You will get a .smi, which will mount just by clicking on it in OS 9.

Also, a lot of the things you download from Macintosh Garden and the like are .toast images. Even though Toast is primarily a burning program, it's worth having a copy on your computer regardless of whether or not you have a burner as it will allow you to easily mount a .toast image in OS 9. Toast 5.2.3 is also available on the garden, fortunately I think as a .sit file that decompresses to a .smi 🙂
