I've taken to replacing the 1/2 AA batteries in systems I restore with a CR2032 or LIR2032 whenever practical.
I've tried several of the replacement adapters available today, but I've run into a few recurring problems:
• Many are made overseas, making shipping to the US unnecessarily expensive.
• Some don't fit particularly well and require additional brackets to hold the battery vertically.
• Some don't accommodate battery sockets with wider tabs.
• Availability can be limited.
• Most seem to prioritize appearance over actually being useful.
So I designed my own.
My goals were pretty simple:
• Provide a more secure fit than the current adapters.
• Allow the battery to sit flat, or nearly vertical using the original bracket's clip.
• Accommodate both narrow and wide battery socket tabs.
• Support a CR2032 or LIR2032.
• Provide through-hole pads for anyone who wants to connect an external battery pack instead.
• Function over form.
• And not give it an interesting name.
I doubled up the board since I couldn't find a fab that could make them thick enough at a practical cost.
It's not trying to reinvent the wheel. It's just supposed to be a practical little adapter that fits the machines I've been working on.
