Mac Classic sound level?
Posted by: Yuppie Scum on 2026-10-02 12:40:26
I'm trying to guage the expected sound level from my Mac Classic. It seems kind of loud to me, and is humming at a particularly irritating frequency. My phone decibel app is measuring about 59-60 dB when set directly in front of it under the "lip."

I replaced and recapped the Analog board and it's I replaced the fan with a modern Noctua fan rated for 19.8dB, and if I had to guess I would say the noise sounds more like a CRT buzzing than the fan noise.

Could over-voltage be an issue? I measured about 5.08v out at the floppy scsi 5v pin.

Oh, I also forgot to mention, there is no spinning hard drive installed right now nor floppy usage to contribute to the noise.

Crack it open and have a listen it'll be pretty obvious what the culprit is. Apart from fan noise you shouldn't be hearing anything.

5.08v is oke. The other systems you mentioned runs on 12 volt. What do you messure on the 12 volt pins?
