| 3D Printing a replacement stand for the M1212 |
Posted by: iantm on 2026-09-23 03:39:20 I have an M1212—but the stand is missing.
An amazing buddy of mine has been using photogrammetry to model the stand. We're almost there… the hardest part was getting the clip right.
Right now I don't have a sense of cost but I'm reaching out to a local printer to see what it would cost in Polar Filament Retro Platinum PetG. It's a hair too big for my A1 so we're going to use an H2D.
Big thanks to @ereuter for letting us borrow the stand to scan.

Posted by: rthorntn on 2026-09-27 03:48:31 So cool, I just picked up an M1212 with a broken neck yesterday, tbh I don't understand the mechanism, what's the retaining mechanism as your renders just show a smooth neck, what keeps the neck attached to the monitor when you lift it, mine has an intact "plug" that inserts up from underneath with two splines on it, i assume those splines "flare" some tabs (I think I see one on the rear of the neck of the donor stand, maybe the front tab has snapped off) that hold the neck in. I might be missing a retaining "hat" piece that goes on top of the neck, not sure?
I'm considering drilling out the stand neck leaving a hole then welding a steel tube "neck" to a bit of sheet steel and inserting that neck into the hole from underneath the stand.
Is your plan to publish stl files that folks can print at home? |
Posted by: iantm on 2026-09-27 08:58:24 Yes! Once we determine that it works reliably we’ll share the STL on printables. Still need to do some test prints.
I might try some |
Posted by: iantm on 2026-09-27 10:15:51 lol I didn’t finish that.
… might try some prints of just the peg to test that first. It’s a big print. Can’t fit the whole thing on my A1. Would fit on the new larger A2L. |
Posted by: rthorntn on 2026-09-27 15:21:06 Thanks, I have a Sovol SV08 so it should fit no problem.
Do you have a closeup render of the clips, I was racking my brain trying to figure out how it worked and came to the conclusion that there must be 6 clips and that 2 of them (front 0° and rear 180°) are flexible (to remove the stand you rotate them to 45/225° and push them in with the monitor stand support removed), at 45/225° the other 4 clips are "floating"? |
Posted by: iantm on 2026-09-27 17:02:41 I think you might be right. Not sure about the relative flexibility of them either yet. |
Posted by: ereuter on 2026-09-27 17:37:04 I believe there are 5 clips. It looks like the ones in the rendering don’t have the little barbs at the tops. I have a couple more of these that are intact. I’ll take one apart and take a couple photos. The one I sent Ian for scanning had one or more broken off.
Edit: there are clearly 6 clips. I was going on memory. |
Posted by: iantm on 2026-09-27 18:06:54 I think we could work in the flexible clips geometry if we get a few photos of them. |

This is my "monitor stand support" its intact, those two vertical splines go into the void between the flexible clips at 0/180° afaik |
Posted by: ereuter on 2026-09-29 07:53:14 I looked more carefully at an intact M1212. All six of the tabs have barbs at the top. This allows the stand to rotate freely 360°. |

All six of the tabs have barbs at the top. Mentioned this to my friend working on it — he was aware and just hasn't quite finished yet… |
