Indigo iMac Screen is Dead
Posted by: Tiktok4321 on 2026-09-17 08:01:38
I have a 2001-ish Indigo G3 Indigo iMac. It used to power up just fine. Now, I get the power chime (albeit quite distorted from allegedly bad worn speakers), but the screen doesn't power on at all. I saw *one* video and they suggested poking the slot CD eject button on boot. I tried that to no avail.

Where do I even BEGIN troubleshooting? Any decent youtube guides? I can't seem to find them...

TIA

first order of business is disassembling it. which is not easy.

I removed the bottom bezel and that was about it. Replaced the PRAM battery while I was there just because I have a bunch and was there. No difference. And, yeah, I’ve seen videos on the full disassembly and I’m not excited.

This sounds a bit similar to an issue I have on mine, a late 1999 DV 400 tangerine that chimes, I hear the screen make some static crackling sounds like CRTs seemingly usually do, then it turns itself off. When I got it back in January the screen wouldn't turn on, but the iMac itself would, and it displayed on an external monitor via VGA just fine. Do you have a more detailed description of what it does, and what happened before this behavior started?

That seems to match my issue. I haven’t tried an external monitor. Good idea.
