Cleaned the whole thing up and pulling the personality card lets it boot fine with an external monitor. The upper case has an interesting mark that could be from the flyback's output arcing to the case.
The CRT doesn't have any cracks and seems ok, so my best guess is the analog board. All of the capacitors look to be ok, and it sounds like the flyback transformers are knows to go on these. Turning it on doesn't cause the expected static on the CRT like you'd expect.
My specific flyback model is the 6174Z-1009D, which someone tried replacing with the 6174Z-1003D to no luck. The only place I found that mentions possible other models compatible is oldcomputer.info but I can't find those models either.
The only matching replacement I can find is from Technotronic Dimensions for a whopping $140. Someone on Reddit was successful with the repair using a replacement from this seller.
If y'all think recapping is still a good idea, there's at least a nice list of the caps needed on 68kmla. | Posted by: sciencegirl100 on 2026-09-20 19:21:21 Update time!
If you're having the same issue as me, REFLOW THE SOLDER! It seemed perfect on mine but after removing the flyback and putting it back my CRT is now alive! It tends to cut out *sometimes* but a thwack and a reboot get it back when it does. I'll still be replacing the transformer, just down the line when finances allow. | | 1 |
